How SwitchBot can work with Home Assistant.
The right option depends on the exact model and the features you want. Most homes will use just one of these approaches.
Direct Bluetooth
Supported devices connect locally to Home Assistant over Bluetooth. Coverage must reach the device, and encrypted products may require keys imported from a SwitchBot account or supplied manually.
Bluetooth proxy
A suitable proxy can carry Bluetooth traffic from distant rooms back to Home Assistant without placing the main server in the middle of the home.
SwitchBot hub through Matter
A compatible hub can share supported devices through Matter. The available device types and features depend on the hub firmware and its Matter support.
A small retrofit can solve a real problem neatly
A small actuator can add control without opening walls or replacing something that already works. That is particularly useful in completed homes and rentals. The trade-off is more batteries, calibration and moving parts than a purpose-built wired solution.
When SwitchBot is the sensible choice, we also make sure the owner knows how to change the battery, recalibrate the device and operate it manually if needed.
Bluetooth coverage needs to work in the final position
A device working beside the Home Assistant host does not prove it will work behind a curtain at the far end of the home. Walls, cabinets, metal tracks and competing 2.4 GHz radios affect the path.
We test coverage with the device in its final position. If a Bluetooth proxy is needed, we record where it is, how it is powered and what to check if it stops working.

Does SwitchBot need its hub to work with Home Assistant?+
Many supported devices can connect directly to Home Assistant over local Bluetooth without a SwitchBot hub. A hub or Bluetooth proxy may still be useful for coverage, Matter bridging or vendor-specific features.
Is SwitchBot local in Home Assistant?+
The official Bluetooth integration communicates locally and uses local push updates. Some encrypted devices still require keys, which can be imported through a SwitchBot account or entered manually.
Should I use SwitchBot or a built-in curtain motor?+
SwitchBot is compelling for a reversible retrofit. A new renovation or large, heavy curtain is usually better assessed for a purpose-built track and correctly sized motor such as a suitable Dooya system.
