How SwitchBot can work with Home Assistant.
The right option depends on the exact model and the features you want. Most homes will use just one of these approaches.
Direct Bluetooth
Supported devices talk to Home Assistant directly over Bluetooth, as long as the signal reaches them. Encrypted products may need keys, imported from your SwitchBot account or entered by hand.
Bluetooth proxy
A Bluetooth proxy is a small relay that carries the signal from distant rooms back to Home Assistant, so the main server doesn’t have to sit in the middle of the home.
SwitchBot hub through Matter
A compatible hub can share supported devices through Matter. Which devices and features come across depends on the hub’s firmware and Matter support.
A small retrofit can solve a real problem neatly
A small add-on device can bring control without opening walls or replacing something that already works. That’s ideal in finished homes and rentals. The trade-off is more batteries, calibration and moving parts than a purpose-built wired setup.

Bluetooth has to reach where the device lives
A device that works next to Home Assistant may not work behind a curtain at the far end of the home. Walls, cabinets, metal tracks and other 2.4 GHz gadgets all get in the way.
So we test it where it’ll actually live. If you need a Bluetooth proxy, we note where it is, how it’s powered and what to check if it stops working.

Does SwitchBot need its hub to work with Home Assistant?+
Often not. Many supported devices connect straight to Home Assistant over local Bluetooth. A hub or Bluetooth proxy can still help with range, Matter or SwitchBot-only features.
Is SwitchBot local in Home Assistant?+
Yes. The official Bluetooth integration works locally and sends updates as they happen. Some encrypted devices still need keys, which you can import from a SwitchBot account or enter manually.
Should I use SwitchBot or a built-in curtain motor?+
SwitchBot is great for a retrofit you can undo. For a new renovation or large, heavy curtains, it’s usually worth looking at a purpose-built track with a properly sized motor, such as a suitable Dooya system.
