How Reolink can work with Home Assistant.
The right option depends on the exact model and the features you want. Most homes will use just one of these approaches.
Camera or doorbell directly
Home Assistant connects to the camera over your home network using the camera’s own login. Supported streams, alerts and controls show up without a Reolink cloud account.
Through an NVR or Home Hub
The NVR (a dedicated video recorder) or Home Hub handles continuous footage and how long it’s kept, while Home Assistant picks up supported channels, alerts, playback and controls.
Battery-camera route
Battery models save power by sleeping, so they may do less or need a compatible NVR or Home Hub. We check the official tested-model list before recommending one for an automation.
Keep recording separate from Home Assistant
Your cameras should keep recording even while Home Assistant restarts or goes offline. Footage stays on an SD card, NVR or Home Hub, and Home Assistant uses the camera’s alerts and streams for dashboards, lights, announcements and notifications.
Keeping those jobs apart makes the system easier to understand, and stops your automation server turning into a makeshift video recorder.
Good placement and cabling make the biggest difference
For fixed cameras, PoE (power and data over one network cable) is usually the most dependable choice. Wi-Fi and battery cameras help where cabling isn’t practical, but signal strength, charging and sleep all limit what they can do.
We note down the camera logins, where footage is stored and for how long, network addresses and which automations rely on each camera.

Does Reolink work locally with Home Assistant?+
Yes. Supported cameras, doorbells, NVRs and Home Hubs use the official local Home Assistant integration. The streams, alerts and controls you get depend on the model and how it’s connected.
Do Reolink cameras need a cloud subscription?+
They don’t have to. Reolink supports local recording on compatible cameras, NVRs and Home Hubs, and Home Assistant doesn’t need a Reolink cloud account. Reolink’s cloud services are optional.
Can Home Assistant record all my cameras?+
Home Assistant can show your streams and act on alerts, but we keep the main recording on the camera, NVR or Home Hub. That way recording carries on whatever the automation system is doing.
