Ways to connect

How Dooya can work with Home Assistant.

The right option depends on the exact model and the features you want. Most homes will use just one of these approaches.

Local push · exact hardware required

Connector or Motionblinds-compatible gateway

Supported bidirectional motors communicate through a compatible gateway using the Motionblinds integration. Home Assistant can receive position updates when the motor, gateway and network path support them.

Local · check available controls

Matter connection

Selected current hardware may use a Matter controller or bridge. Before we use it in a project, we check position reporting, limits, grouped behaviour and recovery after an outage.

Independent control

Standalone wall and remote control

The window treatment retains understandable local operation independent of Home Assistant. Automation adds convenience; it does not become the only way to move the curtain.

01

Get the curtain hardware right first

Motor torque, curtain weight, track shape, stack-back, power location and maintenance access all affect the result. No app can correct an undersized motor or a power supply hidden where nobody can reach it.

We put the motor, controls and gateway on the same drawing as the window treatment, so the Home Assistant connection is decided before the order is placed rather than guessed during setup.

02

Position feedback makes automations more dependable

A one-way radio command can tell a curtain to move without proving where it stopped. Bidirectional feedback is preferable when automations depend on a known position, when several tracks must align or when the user expects the dashboard to reflect manual operation.

Gateway placement and network settings also matter. Control can stay local and still feel unreliable if the home network blocks the discovery messages and live updates sent by the gateway.

  • Confirm torque, track type and power access
  • Prefer bidirectional feedback for position-based automation
  • Record exact motor, remote and gateway models
  • Test wall control, remote control and Home Assistant separately
Before you buy

Check these details first.

Confirm the model and the features you need before placing an order.

  • !A marketing label such as Dooya Pro does not tell us how the motor communicates or connects to Home Assistant.
  • !One-way RF motors cannot provide trustworthy live position feedback.
  • !A network split into separate segments may need to be configured to let the gateway send discovery and live updates.
  • !Curtain track, power and access decisions should be completed before carpentry closes.

Questions

Common questions about Dooya and Home Assistant.

Does Dooya work with Home Assistant?

Supported Dooya systems work through Home Assistant’s Motionblinds integration, which communicates locally. Compatibility depends on the exact motor and gateway, so we check the model numbers before anything is ordered.

What is Dooya Pro?

The name alone does not tell you how the system communicates or whether it will work with Home Assistant. Ask for the complete motor, track, receiver and gateway model numbers, along with written confirmation that the curtain reports its position.

Can the curtains still work without Home Assistant?

They should. We include a straightforward wall control or handheld remote, so the curtains still work during maintenance or if the controller is offline.
