How Yeelight can work with Home Assistant.
The right option depends on the exact model and the features you want. Most homes will use just one of these approaches.
Yeelight LAN control
Once LAN Control is switched on in the Yeelight app, Home Assistant talks to supported lights directly over your home network. That means good Wi-Fi and fixed network addresses become part of the job.
Matter or ecosystem bridge
Newer products may use Matter or another method instead of the classic Yeelight LAN connection. We check the controls, fades and power-cut behaviour of the exact model.
Native app alongside Home Assistant
You may still need the Yeelight app for setup, firmware updates or special effects, even when Home Assistant handles everyday control and automations.
Smart lights still need a sensible wall switch
Nothing’s more frustrating than someone flicking off the wall switch and every automation losing the light. So before choosing the lamp, we decide whether the circuit needs a smart wall switch, a scene button, a relay or a smart fitting that stays powered.
The goal is lighting the whole family can rely on. Voice, dashboards and automations are extras, not the only way to turn on a light.
A light has to look good as well as connect
A light can connect perfectly and still be wrong for the room. Colour temperature, low-level dimming, driver hum, fades and what happens after a power cut all shape how it feels.
We test the chosen model with the switches it’ll actually use, and set how it behaves after a power cut, before rolling it out across the home.

Supported models can use the local LAN connection once they’re set up and LAN Control is switched on. Other models may use Matter or something else, so check the model number before you buy.
Does Yeelight need the cloud after installation?+
Supported classic LAN-control models take everyday Home Assistant commands locally. You may still need the app or internet for setup, firmware and some Yeelight features.
Should I use smart bulbs or smart wall switches?+
It depends on the room and the lighting you want. Main room lighting usually benefits from a reliable wall switch, while smart fittings are great when you want tunable white, colour or individual control.
