Why the neutral conductor matters
A conventional wall switch often receives only the live supply and the switched live returning to the light. A neutral-wire smart switch can power its electronics directly between live and neutral. A no-neutral switch must draw a very small current through the connected load even when the light appears off.
That design is useful in many Singapore homes, but it makes the switch and lighting load a system. Low-wattage LED drivers, dimmers and some fittings may flicker, glow or fail to provide enough current for stable operation.
Check the box before choosing the product
Do not infer wiring from the age or property type alone. Open and test the actual circuits safely through the project electrician. Box depth, conductor condition, circuit arrangement and whether a light is controlled from more than one location all affect the design.

A bypass is a specific remedy, not a ritual
Some manufacturers specify a bypass or anti-flicker component across the load for particular low-power circuits. It should be used only where the device instructions and circuit conditions call for it, installed in an accessible and appropriate location by the relevant electrical professional.
Adding random components to every light can hide a compatibility problem without producing a maintainable installation.
No-neutral also changes the Zigbee mesh
Many no-neutral Zigbee switches behave as end devices rather than mains-powered routers. That means a home full of wall switches does not automatically create the strong mesh people expect. Dedicated powered routers, hubs and coordinator placement still need attention.
Metal distribution boxes and enclosed cabinets are usually poor radio locations. Place coordinators and repeaters for coverage, not tidiness alone.
When adding neutral is worth it
During a full renovation, adding neutral conductors to selected switch points can widen product choice, improve future flexibility and support powered devices that route a mesh. The work must be assessed and executed as part of the electrical scope.
During a completed-home retrofit, a proven no-neutral switch with compatible loads may be the lower-risk and more economical answer. The best design follows the actual circuit and renovation opportunity.
