List what the household wants each room to do and what must remain operable from a physical control. This prevents a product package from deciding the architecture by accident. Lighting, curtains, air-conditioning, access and sensing should each have a reason to be connected.
Mark routines that must work when the internet, a hub or an integration is unavailable. The answer shapes device choice and where conventional control stays in the design.

Before electrical work: confirm power, boxes and control positions

Electrical work in an HDB flat remains subject to HDB's renovation requirements and the relevant electrical responsibilities. Smart-home planning should produce coordination notes for the appointed renovation and electrical teams, not bypass them.
Before ceilings and carpentry: keep equipment accessible
Plan access points for coverage, not merely symmetry on the ceiling plan. Keep hubs, power supplies, relays and controllers out of sealed carpentry and hostile radio locations. A component that needs a ladder and demolition to reset is not neatly integrated.
Reserve an understandable equipment area with labeled power and network connections. Photograph concealed routes and keep the final locations in the handover record.
Before handover: commission rooms and failure paths
Test physical control, app control, automation and recovery separately. Verify what happens after a power interruption, router restart and controller reboot. Rename devices by room and function before dozens of temporary labels become permanent.
Transfer primary accounts and recovery methods to the homeowner. Provide the network and device records, backup location, controller positions and the boundary between installer support and homeowner changes.
