Aqara products can connect to Home Assistant in several ways

Aqara products span Zigbee, Thread, Matter, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and the available integration route depends on the exact device and hub. A sensor that can pair directly to a Zigbee coordinator is a different case from a lock whose full management remains in the Aqara app.

Start with the model numbers and the functions you need. A useful connection should provide the right controls, information and recovery options—not merely make the device appear on a dashboard.

Keep the Aqara hub when it provides features you still need

A supported Aqara hub can retain the usual setup process, firmware updates and Aqara-specific features. Some hubs can share supported devices with Home Assistant through Matter, providing local control for the features the bridge supports.

A bridge does not guarantee that every child device or advanced feature appears. Test the real models and functions before buying a whole-home basket around the assumption.

Direct Zigbee lets Home Assistant manage the Aqara devices

Compatible Aqara Zigbee devices may be paired to ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT through a suitable coordinator. This can remove the separate Aqara hub and make device information available locally, but Home Assistant now needs to handle setup, network coverage, firmware and troubleshooting.

Coordinator placement matters in Singapore homes with concrete walls and metal cabinets. No-neutral switches may not act as Zigbee routers, so the product count alone does not prove mesh coverage.

Another may work better directly through Zigbee while giving up some manufacturer features.

A good design can use a mixture of connection methods. The handover should say which controller manages each device, where firmware updates happen and what remains available if Home Assistant or the internet is down.
