The exact aircon model decides what is possible

Some systems support a native network adapter or a wired building interface. Others can use a supported API. Many existing units can only be controlled by infrared. Each route has different feedback, reliability and maintenance needs.

We start with model numbers and the installed controller so the proposal reflects the equipment in the home.

A useful automation should understand the room

Schedules alone are rarely enough. Room temperature, occupancy, door state and the household's preferred sleep or work routines can all make aircon control more useful, provided the rules stay understandable.

We keep a manual override and sensible limits, so a guest or family member can change the room without negotiating with an automation.

Measure the result instead of promising a percentage

Automation can avoid obvious waste, such as cooling an empty room for hours, but the actual energy result depends on the equipment, room, weather and household behaviour. We do not attach a universal savings figure to an installation.

Where measurement is useful and practical, we can include runtime or energy information in Home Assistant and review the routine against real use.

01Can Home Assistant control any aircon?

No. The available options depend on the exact indoor unit, controller and integration. Many infrared-controlled units can be automated, while native or wired control needs model-specific support.

02Is infrared aircon control reliable?

It can be useful, but basic infrared is usually one-way and may not know when someone uses another remote. Placement, state handling and the fallback control need to be designed carefully.

03Will the original aircon remote still work?

Yes, in the systems we normally propose. We keep a familiar manual control and test how manual changes are reflected—or not reflected—in Home Assistant.

04Will smart control lower my electricity bill?

It may reduce unnecessary runtime, but there is no honest fixed percentage that applies to every home. We design for comfort and sensible operation, then measure the result where useful.
